It’s the final countdown until our baby girl arrives into this big bad world and I am so grateful I got the opportunity to capture the good..the beauty of life, pregnancy, love and nature with an amazing photographer, fellow South African…Carlien Koning.
We were blessed with a rare sunny day in the UK and Carlien chose the perfect location, Hitchin Lavender Farm in Hertfordshire. A pretty purple haze of lavender and red poppies in the background, it made a beautiful setting. I love being in nature and preferred it to shooting in the busy city life of London.
I am not a ‘girly’ girl myself, so I stuck to my inner ‘pin-up’ girl style, with a casual ‘mom’ twist. No flower crowns! I wanted something different and didn’t feel like showing my naked bump. Carlien made me feel comfy in front of the camera and I could be myself.
Everything that could go wrong that morning, fashion-wise, went wrong! Initially, I had a pretty dress with lace in the back and this rookie got makeup on it so I threw together a last-minute outfit and somehow it just worked*. I probably shouldn’t have worn horizontal stripes, but I felt comfortable and in this stage of pregnancy in that heat, I couldn’t be bothered 😉 My partner chose an outfit that coincidentally matched the purple lavender and my outfit. He’s a keeper! 🙂
